Morocco

Morocco is a country in North Africa, bordering the Mediterranean Sea. It’s one of the most popular tourist destinations in the Middle East. The country’s geography includes both land and water features. The country’s capital is Rabat, while the largest city is Casablanca. Rabat sits on the Atlantic Ocean’s littoral, while Casablanca sits on the country’s littoral with the Atlantic Ocean. Both cities are extremely rich in history and culture, exemplified by their many historical mosques and monuments.

Morocco’s geography encompasses a lot of land, water and natural beauty. The country has an area of about 28,560 square miles. This is about the same size as Tennessee. However, Morocco is much more populous than its American counterpart— it has a population of about 33 million people. Morocco’s biggest city, Casablanca, is also one of the world’s fastest-growing cities. Both cities sit on the coast and are brimming with tourists.

Morocco has a lot of cultural heritage derived from its Islamic heritage. Islam is Morocco’s primary religion; it accounts for nearly 90 percent of Moroccans’ faith. Moroccans celebrate their most revered holiday during the holy month of Ramadan and during the Eid al Fitr holiday. They also value their Islamic heritage, as they’ve preserved many aspects of the religion through their culture. For example, they wear traditional Muslim clothing such as hijabs, kaftans and thobes. Additionally, they speak Arabic at home and at work and follow traditional Islamic practices such as prayer and fasting during Ramadan.

The capital city of Rabat exemplifies many of Morocco’s cultural traditions and characteristics. It’s one of the oldest cities in North Africa and has many historic monuments such as mosques, tombs and fountains. Each monument represents a different Moroccan culture or tradition from the country’s history. For instance, one monument represents Morocco’s Islamic heritage; another represents its history as a center for trade in North Africa; another commemorates Moroccan heroes like Ali Ibn Uthaya who lived during that time, and another honors Moroccan monarchs who lived at that time.

Morocco is an exotic destination with a lot to offer— especially to those interested in Islamic culture or history. The country is also culturally rich thanks to its Muslim heritage, which dates back centuries to the country’s founding by Islamic holy men. Casablanca and Rabat are two beautiful cities that showcase centuries of cultural growth through their monuments and traditions.
